25% off pre-order sale!
I'm sure this is the one thousandth email you've gotten about the BN sale
Greetings savvy savers!
Do you want 25% off preorders?? Well click your way over to Barnes & Noble and use code PREORDER25 to start saving. Tilly in Technicolor, my YA roadtrip romance featuring an autistic hero and an ADHD heroine is part of this sale. Writing a joyful novel about neurodivergent teens falling in love was so affirming, and I can’t wait for this book to officially release August 15, 2023. The book is releasing in both hardcover and paperback so you probably need one of each, right? 😘
You’ll see an absurd amount of promo for this sale from authors (like your’s truly 🫡) and not that anyone asked but I wanted to take a moment to dive into why we hype up this deal so much.
Pre-orders are an extremely important factors to a book’s short and long-term success. In the age of algorithms, pre-order numbers and reports influence how many copies of a novel bookstores will purchase. The more pre-orders, the more they’ll order to have in stock outside of just those pre-orders, the more they’ll push a book to readers, the more the book will sell, the more a publisher will put marketing power behind a book, the more bookstores pick it up…. rinse wash repeat. Barnes & Noble in particular has become a really important bookseller, one of the last standing US chain bookstores to compete against Amazon. BN also has wide distribution, so when they buy stock of a new release (a decision influenced by many things but also those pre-order numbers) the more likely the book can be found by readers who will enjoy it.
Taking advantage of pre-order sales like the one BN is holding is a great way to support an author while saving you some cash along the way!
I also want to take a moment to state how important it is to also support independent bookstores with your book buying habits. Buying from indie stores is a great way to support small businesses and booksellers that have such a passion for what they do! If you don’t have an independent bookstore in your area, you can support one by ordering through websites like bookshop.org, libro.fm, and indiebound.org.

While in D.C., I’ll be heading to East City Bookshop to talk to two of my favorite authors, Christina Lauren! This is a hybrid event, so if you aren’t in the area, you can still join us virtually as I basically fangirl for however long they provide me with a microphone! More info can be found here.
