The Plus One is on sale for the first time ever! The ebook is only $2.99 across all retailers, so now is a great time to give these hard-headed, contrarian, rascals a chance! Already read? Maybe gift it to your romance loving friend who could use some laughs and cries (and who would enjoy an emo 69 scene hehe).
Block-tober
I’m currently in the marination phase (does that sound gross? I feel like it sounds gross, but I can’t think of a better word) of my next few projects, where I daydream about these new characters I’m meeting; find them in quiet moments of my day. This part is crucial to my drafting process, but one I’ve had to rush through on recent projects. But since my declaration of slowing down, I’ve been lingering in this daydream phase, letting my mind wander and think about these characters in ways I know won’t make it into the final (or even first) draft of their story, but still help me to understand them on a deeper level.
I’ve realized, not so shockingly, that the moments of inspiration that come from this incubation phase are there strongest when I’m not mindlessly doom scrolling on social media. It’s very easy to feel inadequate when flipping through posts and comparing yourself to others, and that sensation does nothing to serve the creative process. In fact, it’s one of the greatest inhibitors to sitting down, letting words flow through you, and doing the damn thing of writing a book.
So, in conclusion, this is a very long way of saying that I’m taking a social media break for the month to try and enjoy all the beauty of autumn and spooky season.
