Anyway! Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake audiobook is on sale over at audible for only $5.99!!! Y’all, I know authors aren’t supposed to have favorites among their characters, but Lizzie might be mine. And Rake!! Rakeeeeee. That emotionally constipated, gorgeous, himbo of a man. They’re relationship felt like a breath of fresh air to write, and I was blown away by how the audiobook brought them so to life.

Spooky Book Recs (and one amazing romance)

I’m having a bit of an identity crisis because I am suddenly binging horror novels and thrillers like an adrenaline famine is quickly approaching.

I finished Mexican Gothic yesterday and good lord this might be one of my favorite books of all time??? It is so atmospheric and sensual (in a creepy but also sexy way??) and I could not put it down. It also has one of the best main characters I’ve ever read. (Noemí, baby, I’d die for you, ilysm). I need this to be made into a movie IMMEDIATELY because it was just… ugh for someone that deals in words I’m at a loss for them over this absolutely stunning, unsettling novel about a haunted house and the evil, enduring torment of colonialism.

I also read Yellowface back in September and this is my Roman Empire. I have not stopped thinking about it. This book is razor sharp and cutting and so artfully crafted I get a little overwhelmed thinking about it. It’s a bit horror, a bit suspense, a bit satire, and a whole lot of amazing. It really explores the insidious nature of white privilege, greed, and jealousy in the publishing industry. If you like books about writers, this is one you have to pick up.

I started She is a Haunting last night and while I’m only about 13% in, the set-up is already so gripping, I contemplated ruining my sleep schedule (which would in turn ruin my life) to stay up reading.

Finally, the polar opposite of a horror novel, I’m reading an early copy of the STUNNING adult romance debut A Love Like the Sun by Riss M. Neilson. This book… yall are not ready. There’s no way you could be. It’s tender and brilliant and creates such a delicious ache in your chest as you watch these two childhood friends journey through a summer where they question if the love they’ve always defined as friendship could be something so much more. It doesn’t come out till next year but you do not want to miss it!!!
