Hi hi hi!
I blinked, and somehow July is nearly over and we’re only 15 days, 12 hours, 1 minute, and 22 seconds (at time of publication) from Tilly in Technicolor’s release!
As I’ve mentioned before, Oliver, one of the main characters of the book, is autistic. One of the things most special about him, and what made being in his head so wonderfully fun while working on this book, was his special interest in colors. He has a deep passion for color theory and Pantone colors, and it’s his main navigation tool for the world around him. Social interactions and cues are a challenge for him, so he relates to the world through color, sharing this intense special interest with others through social media. These unique facet of his personality made research for this book so fun. I scoured through books about color balance and psychology, flipping through Pantone color wheels, searching for the exact color Ollie was seeing when he looked around him.
Throughout the book, his worldview starts to shift, and he starts to see colors in the context of Tilly, the first fellow neurodivergent person he’s ever deeply connected with. Their connection is so special and intricate and potentially one of my favorite journeys to love I’ve written. I hope you enjoy seeing the wonder of colors and the world through Ollie’s eyes as much as I did 🥹💘🌈
My friend recently found some vintage Pantone color wheels, and I am OBSESSED! I’ve decided to turn some of the swatches in to bookmarks, and I’ll include them in Tilly pre-orders from Malaprop’s and be passing them out at events.
Speaking of events (stunning segue, not at all planned) I have a few on the horizon!
I’ll be launching Tilly in Technicolor at Malaprop’s Bookstore on Monday, August 14 at 6:0pm EST. This event is both in-person and virtual so be there or I’ll cry.
I’m also so so SO excited to be attending Steamy Lit Con in Anaheim, CA on August 18-19! I’ll be at table M27 and will have some very exciting surprise goodies with me!
The good times keep rolling at The Ripped Bodice (Culver City, CA). On Saturday, August 19th at 6:30PST I’ll be chatting with the L’sOML Susan Lee and Serena Kaylor! This is a ticketed event, so make sure you register!
To round out the whirlwind month, I’ll be heading to Lark and Owl Booksellers in Texas to talk (scream) with the one and only, Ali Hazelwood! This event will be on Friday, August 25 at 7pm CDT and is also ticketed, so make sure to register!
I cannot wait to celebrate this book that is so near and dear to my heart, and I hope to see you somewhere along the tour!
